Adoniram and the other foreigners were going to be moved out of their jail. Primarily due to the fact that Burma is in war with the English soldiers and Adoniram was much needed by the Burmese King to be a translator for the peace treaty.
General Sir Archibald Campbell ready to negotiate with Burma with the conditions laid out in the peace treaty. Therefore Adoniram and his family quickly transported to the city of Ava to help with the translation work. The boat transported them through the narrow Irrawady River. For 3 days and 3 nights, they could not laid down. During night time, it was very cold as well. Furthermore Adoniram has been very ill and his health worsen.
The rulers of Burma were worried if Adoniram going to sabotage them through the translation work. Adoniram is God’s disciple and he knows to love his enemy though it is difficult. Therefore, Adoniram remained faithful and translated the letters from the English general well in order to bring peace to the Burmese people.
The Burmese King was furious when made known about the conditions made by the English side. The King need to surrender certain provinces, gold and silver. However, the King had no choice but to do so in order to ensure the English soldiers to leave Burma as soon as possible.
After the signing of the treaty, the Judson family was invited by General Campbell and were treated very well. Not long after that the Judson family went back to Rangoon. They were overjoyed when they discovered God’s providence, when the manuscripts that Adoniram tried to hide were still intact. The numbers of local Christians increases as well as more were no longer afraid to declare their faith.
Eventually, Ann passed away and Adoniram was badly hit by Ann’s death. Eventually, Adoniarm able to overcome the grief through God’s grace. After Ann’s death, Adoniram continued to work hard and able to translate the whole Bible into Burmese language. He was able to produce a dictionary to help incoming missionaries to Burma.
Last time, it took a long time for Burmese people to receive salvation. However, at the last years of Adoniram’s life, there were people who would like to get to know Jesus and as such saved daily. In the end Adoniram passed away and his legacy stayed.
Therefore, we also want to learn to persevere and keep on planting the seeds of God’s word for those who have yet to believe in Jesus.
