The Sunday School children will learn about God’s 5th Commandment: Honor your father and mother. This is the first of the second part of the 10 Commandments that governs the relationship between human, and it concerns the relationship between children and their parents in the most basic societal unit of family.
God delegates authority over children to their parents. And as children, we ought to honor our parents by giving them our thanks, love, listen, obey and respect. By honoring our parents, we are also honoring God who has placed them as the authority over us.
Our parents are also men and women who are not perfect, and they are also sinners. We need to also pray for them. And we learn to respect them always even if they are imperfect. When our parents have become old, we ought to love and care for them.
Likewise, we ought to learn to respect and obey other God’s delegated authorities on earth. For example, our mentors in the church, our teachers, and the government of the state/ country where we live in.
As God’s children, let us obey our parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord (Colossians 3:20-21).
