Ringkasan:
Moses had chosen 12 men from each tribe to explore the land of Canaan and bring back the report.
When the spies went into Canaan, they looked at the cities, farms and people. They also saw some foods growing there.
After 40 days later they returned to their camp carrying some fruits they picked up also two men had carry one big cluster of grapes and give the report to Moses together with all israelites as the following:
1. The people living in Canaan were big and strong
2. The cities were fortified and very large
3. They are so powerful people
Therefore, their conclusions to Moses that they can’t win over with Canaan people if they attack them because they are stronger than we are and we are just like a grasshoppers compared to those giant people. They started to exagerate and spread rumours to israelites, complaining and discouraged all of them. Except the 2 other spies (Joshua and Caleb) said a different thing. Don’t be afraid God has promised this land to us. If we obey Him, He will lead us into the land so we can enjoy the good things and don’t rebel against God.
But still the people woudn’t listen they even said we wish we had died in Egypt or in the dessert why did the Lord bring us here where our man and women will be killed and captured during the battle. We should choose a new leader and go back to Egypt.
God heard it all and was angry.
God told Moses He would immediate kill all of them and make Moses the father of new nation and stronger. But Moses pray to God to have mercy for israelites.
Then God listen to Moses prayer, although God still shows mery to those who are obedient but He also punished those who are disobedient and rebellious against Him.
Therefore, the 10 spies were killed by God except Joshua and Caleb (2 spies) who obeyed God. Also God killed all the adults of israelites who are disobedient as God still spare their children to enter the promised land. They had lost their joy of going to promised land because they have not trusted and obeyed God.
