After 2 month battle at St. Andrews Castle, Knox and his friends surrendered and were captured by combined forces of French and Mary de Guise. Knox became galley slave for 19 months before he was released. It was due to the intervention of the new young king, Edward VI. But of course it was God's intervention after all. Knox was sent to Berwick to preach there. Through the boldness in preaching the word of God, Berwick has changed from a place of violence to a peaceful place. Knox then was appointed to preach at Newcastle and a year later appointed as Chaplain to the King. After King Edward VI died, Knox fled to Geneva. He was also asked to become a pastor in Frankfurt but not long after that he decided to return to Geneva. Knox really longed to preach in Scotland but it was dangerous at that time. After Queen Mary I died, Knox took another chance to return to Scotland. Children learn through the story of John Knox to tell truth to others and to be willing to suffer for Christ. Children also learn that God intervene the history.
