Elisha was the prophet of God who lived and served in the northern Kingdom of Israel after Elijah was taken to heaven. He received double portion of miracles as Elijah and served to show God's compassion to those in need.
The story today is about a widow from Elisha's follower who was in great difficulty as the creditors are threatening to take her 2 sons if she does not pay her debts, and make them into slaves. As her last resort, she went to see the prophet Elisha for advice. When asked, she told Elisha that she only had a jar of oil. Elisha asked her to borrow vessels from her neighbors. She obeyed Elisha and she saw God's deliverance as she filled up the vessels with the little oil that she had. She used the oil collected to pay off her debts and lived from it.
Lessons from Elisha and the Widow’s Oil Story:
1) God loves his children and cares for our needs, whether we are big or small.
2) God is fully in control and has the power to deliver us. Children learn to trust Him in every situation.
3) The widow obeyed the prophet Elisha , although it may not make a lot of sense, and she did not know what would happen.
4) God can bless us through the little things that He still provides to us, to bring even greater blessings. So children learn to give thanks for what they have.
5) Her obedience in collecting the empty jars translates into how much miracles the widow would see at the end.
