On the road to Emmaus, the 2 disciples’ were opened when Jesus explained to them about the Word of God from Moses, the Prophets to Himself and this can happen because the Holy Spirit worked in the heart of the 2 disciples.
Who is Holy Spirit? In John 15:26, Jesus said the Holy Spirit that He will send is the Spirit of truth who will lead all of us to the truth.
What does the Holy Spirit do?
1. He convict the world about sin, righteousness and judgement (John 16:8).
2. He illuminates the believers to understand the Word of God.
3. He guides the believers how to live their daily lives.
4. He will give a burning hearts for the believers to share the gospel.
Today we learn about William Carrey, the father of modern missionary who thinks that the great commission of Jesus is for all Christians of all times. He reprimanded his fellow believers: “Multitudes sit at ease and give themselves no concern about the far greater part of their fellow sinners, who to this day, are lost in ignorance and idolatry.”
He went to India and experienced hardship but he wrote: “This is indeed the valley of the shadow of death to me, but I rejoice that I am here notwithstanding; and God is here.”
He used the talents in language that God has given to Him and He translated Bible into Bengali, Oriya, Marathi, Hindi, Assamese, Sanskrit and parts of it into other dialects and languages.
