Bahan Alkitab: Roma 9-11

Tanggal: 02/08/2020

Ringkasan:

What is Sovereign-unlimited power or independent.

Singapore is a sovereign nation governed by Singapore people or Singapore Government.
They have their own Laws. For example if we are caught bringing a certain amount of herroine into Singapore ,the punishment is death.this may not be the law in other countries let’s say in Philipines or Malaysia. But other country must respect Singapore Sovereignty.other countries cannot interfere in Singapore Law.

What does it mean that God is sovereign?
It means God is the Supreme Authority and all things are under His control. He is the creator of everything(Genesis1-2). He is sovereign in everything. He is sovereign in Salvation.
To understand more about God’s sovereignty, i would like to share with you the story of Job.There is this man ,his name is Job. According to the Bible he is blameless, upright and fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
But one day Satan got a permission from God to test Job by taking away his wealth and health.
Job 16-32 -Job lamented What miserable comforts you are. He believes there is a redeemer in heaven who will vouch for his innocence. He feels he is being treated unfairly as he cries to God for help but get no response. Job ask why God allows wicked people to live in prosperity and health while he suffers but knows that God will bring justice in the end .Job starts recounting the good deeds he has done and how he has obeyed the Lord.
Job 38-39
God interrupts and speaks from a whirlwind.God asks Job a long lists of rhetorical questions to show how little Job knows about creation and the power of God.
-Who gives food to the raven, when its young cry out to God?
-Have you given the horse its strength? Do you clothe its neck with a flowing mane?
-Does the hawk fly by your wisdom & spread his wings towards the south in winter.
-The wings of an ostrich flap joyfully. She does not care that a stranger might trample on her eggs for God did not give her wisdom.

How does God choose whom to be saved?
God is sovereign in salvation .
Why he choose us?
Are we better ? NO
Are we more obedient ? NO
Are we in GRII?NO
Are we poor?NO
Are we Rich?NO
What does the bible say?
Ephesians 1:5
He predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ according to the purpose of his will.
Ephesians 1:11
In him we have obtained an inheritance having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will.

The bible also told us we are predestined before we are born .before we could do good or bad.look at these verses.
Romans 9:11
Though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad-in order that God’s purpose of election might continue, not because of worksbut because of him who calls.
Romans 9:12-13
She was told the older will serve the younger .As it is written Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.

This is clearly tells us God chose us base on His Will and His sovereignty, before we could have faith.before we could do anything ,before we were born.
Therefore :
1.God is sovereign in salvation.
2. Salvation is by His Grace alone not by human effort.
3. God justifies Jews and Gentiles by faith in Christ.

Points to discuss:
1. Name 1 attribute of God we have learned today.
2. Are we predestined to be saved because we go to GRII?
3. What is the correct attitude knowing that God has given us the free gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord?

Finally , Paul said he is full of Joy that he is saved but he is also sad that his people reject Jesus Christ. so we should have the same emotion as Paul. We have to share the Gospel to our families and friends.

Additional verse to memorize:
Romans 10:9-10
because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. for with the heart one believes and is justified ,and with the mouth one confess and is saved.

Ayat Hafalan:

Romans 8:30
And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
